SKILL DEVELOPMENT / TRAINING PROGRAMME
Programme structured to suit the convenience of the trainees/ industry.
IJIRA-NERC & PSC already has modern Garment manufacturing machineries, weaving machineries & Wet Processing machineries with testing facilities to guide up the Textile and Clothing industry in North East Region.
IJIRA-NERC & PSC is planning broad training / skill development Programme.
Training on Garment Manufacturing
Training programme is emphasize on imparting of skills required for operating basic industrial sewing machines, provide training on computerized international brands and basic inputs necessary for training assembly line sewing operator. Training and demonstration about the various practices of the garment industry right from the equipment operated in the cutting section namely the knives (round and straight) to the specialized  sewing machine of the sewing section are imparted.

IJIRA NERC & PSC, Guwahati is regularly implementing 4 weeks Garment Manufacturing Training  

programme under Integrated Skill Development Scheme and funded by the Ministry of Textiles, Govt. of India.
Training on Garment Manufacturing
Training are provided in the area of Pre-weaving, weaving technology and Post weaving including the powerloom mechanism, weaving calculations, machine maintenance, fabric designs, different type of fabric defects, methods of mending such defect and methods of prevention. Training are also provided in the area of Quality Control.
Training on Wet Processing
To emphasized the importance of Scientific and standardized approach for the Wet processing at the decentralized and unorganized sector in the North East region, special stress is given on imparting of skills required for processing of silk, Cotton and acrylic yarn and fabric which are used in bulk quantity for making traditional dresses of this region. Training and demonstration about the various practices of processing of the same is given during the training.
Training of Trainers
  Regular programmes are conducted for upgrading the skill of trainers in the IJIRA, North Eastern Regional Centre.

  Liaison Visits
   
To identify various technical problems of the industry and to find measures to overcome the same, liaison visits are made to the powerloom units. Further regular Interaction with the weavers/ dyers/ entrepreneurs, Textile Institutes, Govt. officials and organization related to Textiles are being done for the development of Textiles in NE region especially on the requirement of skill development for the Textile and apparel sector.

  SEMINARS/ WORKSHOPS/ AWARENESS CAMPAIGN
   
Powerloom Development activities are an attempt to facilitate the sustainable development of powerloom industry. Seminars and awareness programme are organized periodically on the schemes/ initiatives of Ministry of Textiles, Govt. of India for the development of decentralized Powerloom sector.

  ADVISORY BODY/ EXPERT CONSULTATIVE COMMITTEE
   
For the first time, an Expert Consultative Committee (ECC) for the Growth & Development of Textile & Clothing Industry in North Eastern Region has been constituted by IJIRA separately for the North-East Region attached to Textile Commissioner’s office.

EXPOSURE VISIT
   
To other major centers of Powerlooms as well as machinery exhibitions to assist diversification and transfer of technology and to get first hand knowledge of developments taking place, sharing experience and knowledge and gathering more in depth of power looms to produce diversified textile products or value added fabrics, Exposure visit for NE weavers/ entrepreneurs are being organized by IJIRA, NERC & PSC Guwahati to other developed clusters in India

BACKGROUND ON IJIRA - POWERLOOM SERVICE CENTRE, GUWAHATI
The Decentralized and widely dispersed powerloom sector of the Indian textile Industry plays an important role in the economy of the country. It contributes significantly to meeting the clothing needs of the country, employment generation and foreign exchange earnings etc. Govt. of India, Ministry of Textiles has been supporting this sector in various ways by providing different financial schemes for modernization, growth and development. One major such support is establishment of Powerloom Service Centers (PSCs) to provide technical and other guidance to this sector including training to weavers on the powerlooms, testing facilities, design development, technical consultancy and dissemination of information about modernization of looms, etc. IJIRA is also administering one PSC situated at Guwahati which was transferred to IJIRA in July, 2001 as per the order of the Secretary (Textiles), MOT, GOI.
